How this guide uses evidence
A transparent guide to sources, uncertainty and the limits of online pest identification.
Identification comes before treatment
A symptom can have several explanations. A noise does not prove a rat, a bite does not prove bed bugs, and a pellet does not establish structural termite damage without examination. We separate observations from identification and explain when a qualified inspection is needed. Local context suggests what to inspect; it cannot diagnose an individual home.
Compare approaches, not slogans
Control choices depend on the organism, location, extent, exposure risks and previous attempts. Natural products can still cause harm, and a pesticide registration is not an instruction to apply it in every situation. Follow the specific label and obtain qualified advice for complex, structural or hazardous work. This site does not publish product-mixing recipes or DIY structural fumigation instructions.

Pages identify their source material. The first edition was researched in October 2026. Product availability, permitted uses and municipal programmes can change; check the linked authority for current requirements. No claim is made that every pest is equally common in every San Diego neighbourhood.
